Rugged Maniac

So picture this...

Ryan and I are driving down to Denver Saturday morning after dropping the girls off at Jenna's house for a few hours. Our windshield wipers are on high and this is what I see on my phone when I look up the weather:

Where are we headed? To the Rugged Manic 5K race. What's that you ask? Great question! It's no ordinary race. No-sir-ree-bob, it's a race of epic proportions. The Rugged Maniac website does a pretty good job of painting the picture...

Rugged Maniac is a 5K (3.2 mile) obstacle course race that combines the most rugged terrain and burly obstacles to allow those with a sense of adventure to define themselves, then bask in glory at a rocking after party with great bands, good food and plenty of beer!

Each Rugged Maniac features at least twenty obstacles constructed by an experienced crew of licensed contractors. These aren’t the pop-up kiddie obstacles you’ll see at other races. You’ll climb over walls up to 12’ high, crawl through mud under barbed wire, slide down a 50’ water slide, jump over fire and face many other challenges all while running through a combination of forests, fields, motocross tracks and ski slopes!

Unlike other races, we won’t run you around a golf course or parking lot and proclaim it rugged. We won’t make you wait in ridiculous lines mid-course and pretend you’ve been challenged. Instead, we offer a truly challenging and well-organized course that beats all others.

So basically, we were on our way to do this...

In the freezing cold rain...yes, we're CRAZY!

Lucky for us we weren't navigating the course all alone. Oh no, we gathered a team of athletes, no scratch that, a team of pure specimens of physical prowess to help us concur this beast. Meet the...drum roll please...Muddy Mamas and Dirty Daddies

I know, I know. My muscles are HUGE. Please don't be jealous. (Baahahaha!)

The gun went off for our heat at 12:30pm and a short 75 minutes later we crossed the finish line. Yes. That's a 25 minute mile pace. Yes. We are awesome.

I'm not going to lie, by the end we were pretty stinking cold. BUT, the race was a blast! And as it turns out, the extra mud that resulted from the weather, actually made things even more fun.

Long story short. The race was cold. The race was muddy. The race was fun. The race was worth it.

A blog post wouldn't be complete without the girls, so here you go. While we were getting our mud on, they had a blast with Aunt Jenna. (Thank you Jenna for helping to make the muddy magic possible!)

Note: If you think you or your spouse qualify as a "pure specimen of physical prowess" and would like to join the 2013 Muddy Mamas and Dirty Daddies team we are now accepting applications. Just saying. :)
