My Mom's Retirement

Well, it's official. My mom has retired from her position in the school district. A week or so ago she went to the Boulder Valley School District retirement dinner and received her golden apple (above), and on Friday she had her retirement tea luncheon. Ryan, the girls and I were able to join her for the event. It was really nice.

I wrote her a little poem to commemorate this event and put it on a plaque for her. Yay Momma!

Just Like That She’s Free

This story begins many years ago,
With young Ms. Summers rearing to go.
She walked into class for the very first time,
All set to start molding countless young minds.

A difficult task? Why yes indeed,
But this spunky woman was sure to succeed.
Year one quickly passed and the others did too,
And wouldn’t you know, we’re at year 32!

There are many stories that could be told,
The good, the bad, the sad and the bold.
But rehashing these tales would take awhile,
So instead let’s just say she helped many to smile.

Mrs. Schwarz made a difference it’s easy to see,
Many lives have changed, I think we’d agree.
Children are brighter and more self assured,
As result of the years this teacher endured.

But as they all must, this chapter concludes,
So we rejoice with a selection of teas and fine foods.
Now onward to new and exciting things,
Mrs. Schwarz must sprout a new set of wings.

Retirement is simply a change of plan,
Relaxing and spending more time as Granne.
A chance to try a new hobby or two,
And take care of things that are long overdue.

So there is just one thing we wanted to say,
As we celebrate this wonderful and glorious day.
Thank you to a great teacher, mom and friend,
Your hard work we most certainly commend.

Here are a few pictures from the tea.
