We spent last week in North Dakota celebrating Ryan's grandparent's 60th wedding anniversary and spending some quality time with the Volk family. We left Thursday afternoon and drove to Spearfish, South Dakota where we spent the night and then we got up bright and early on Friday morning to drive the rest of the way to Bismarck.
Cameron did really well on the car ride there. But I have to admit, the portable DVD player we borrowed from one of Ryan's coworkers proved it's weight in gold! Normally we're not huge TV people, but I was more than willing to put on Mary Poppins and Veggie Tales to keep little missy occupied for a couple hours here and there!
The only real drama during the trip there was a 10 minute side of the road stop where we had to strip Cameron out of her clothes because she had a major poo blow out! It was hilarious. I couldn't stop laughing the hole time. I didn't think to get any pictures, but I wish I had so you all could share in the moment!
There had been a LOT of rain up north lately, so every thing was very green and really pretty. All in all it was a nice road trip, even if I'm not a big road trip person. :)
When we got to Grandma and Grandpa Volk's house we were immediately greeted by a ton of aunts and uncles and cousins. For those of you who are not familiar with the Volks, there are a TON of them! Ryan's dad is one of 12 kids, all of which have kiddos which means Ryan has 38 cousins! That doesn't even include the great grandchildren that have recently started entering the family.
Cameron had a blast playing with all of the cousins, and I was thankful to have some help keeping her entertained!
Saturday was the big anniversary celebration. There was a church service and a big reception afterwards. It was a lot like a wedding. Cameron did really well during the church service and she loved dancing during the reception. Almost the entire family was able to make it to the event, minus a handful of cousins, which is pretty impressive for such a large crew.
