Our Big Girl

Little Miss Cameron isn't quite as little as she used to be. These are a few pictures with her showing everyone what a big girl she is.

Sitting on daddy's lap with her sippy cup.

Sitting in the high chair at Grammy's birthday dinner...she turned 39 on Aug. 28th ;-)

Sitting in the big kid seat at Walmart.

Sitting in her stroller the big girl way, notice how she's got her feet propped up? She loves to do that, it cracks me up.

Here's a video of her in her new high chair. It's the kind that just hooks onto the counter. I saw it at a consignment sale for $20 and figured I might as well give it a try. She actually really likes sitting in it. She always gets really excited and laughs a lot.

Also, as promised, this is a video of Cameron giving five.

Other news, I discovered that Cameron does NOT like bananas. I tried giving them to her the last couple of days and she wouldn't have anything to do with them. I eventually reverted back to sweet potatoes and zucchini which she seems to like. It's so funny, I thought she'd for sure like bananas! Shows what I know.

The Past Week

Since my last post Cameron's gotten to try sweet potatoes and zucchini. Both of the veggies were a much bigger hit than the plain old rice cereal was. She is definitely starting to get the hang of eating real food, but still isn't eating a ton. I did some research and apparently that's completely normal at first. I guess it just takes time because, like anything else, eating is a new skill that must be learned. For some reason, I just thought she'd love food and start gobbling it up...that's probably because I love food so much! ;-)

It's really funny because when I'm feeding her she likes to grab the spoon and help me shove it into her mouth. It's a little problematic when she misses the handle and just grabs the end knocking the food all over the place. She also doesn't like to sit still, so that certainly makes each and every feeding an adventure!

Another new development: Miss Cameron is starting to have some anxiety with men and strangers. She had mini breakdowns with both my dad and Ryan's dad last week and we got called out of church to pick her up in the nursery on Sunday morning. I'm not quite sure why. It's probably just a phase that she'll grow out of.

This week Cameron also started giving high fives. It's awesome! She isn't great at it yet, but if you put up your hand and say, "Give me five!" she'll reach her hand up to yours. It's very cute. I'll have to get a video so I can post it for you to see.

I think that's about it as far a news goes. We haven't had a whole lot going on the last week, just a lot of playing around and hanging out.
Getting ready for some sweet potato goodness. As you can see, I've started stripping her down to her diaper at meal time so it's easier to clean up after.

Yummy, yummy! Notice how she is twisted around in her chair?

Playing in her jumping chair. She actually doesn't really like to jump in it, she mostly just stands and turns around in circles.

Eatin' Solids

Cameron tried solid food for the first time this weekend--rice cereal. Honestly, I don't think she was a big fan. I'm not sure if it's because eating something other than breast milk is so different, or if she just really didn't like the way it tasted. I guess we'll have to wait and see how she does as we start to introduce other, more exciting, foods.

She also got to try drinking water out of a sippy cup for the first time. I don't think she really figured out how it worked, but she loved holding the cup and chewing on the drinking spout.

We're nerdy first time parents, so of course this was a big event for us. We took lots of pictures and videos. I'm not going to be sad if you don't watch the entire video, I know it's kind of long.

The before picture.

I think most of the food ended up on her, not in her mouth.

She liked playing with the spoon more than anything else.

What a sweet, messy girl!

First time "drinking" out of a sippy cup.

Post first meal, Cameron kept trying to pull at Ryan's hat, so he put it on her, ha!

On Sunday afternoon we went to the Rockies game with some of Ryan's family. We had a great time and, despite an eventful 9th inning, the Rockies managed to pull out the win. It was Faith Day, so after the game Jeremy Camp preformed.

Six Months Old!

Cameron is Six Months Old!

August 13, 2010
Weight: 13 pounds, 11 ounces
Length: 26.5 inches
Head: 41 centimeters

Happy half birthday to our little toots! I know I say this every month, but it's hard to believe it's already been half a year. Cameron had her six month check with Dr. Rosequist yesterday afternoon. Overall she is very healthy. The doctor was amazed at how advanced she is with her motor skills, apparently she is at the level of a 9 month old. The doctor kept asking if there are athletes in our family. I told her that we were fairly athletic, but not super athletes or anything like that. She said it will be interesting to watch and see what happens.

I must not have done a very good job taking Cameron's measurements last month, because it appears she has shrunk a little bit. She is in the 10th percentile for weight, the 80th percentile for length and 15th percentile for head circumference. The doctor told us to just make sure that she's getting plenty of calories and she should bounce right back up in her weight. Which leads me to the next thing we learned at the appointment... Cameron gets to start eating solid foods! Stay tuned to see how it goes.

So Cameron, what are you up to at six months old?

  • You started blowing raspberries this month. It cracks us up every time you do it.
  • You sleep on your tummy 95 percent of the time. Even if we put you down on your back you'll roll over to get more comfy on your tummy.
  • You started saying "da da da da da" this month, however we're not giving daddy credit for your first word quite yet. We figure you need to know what your saying before it counts.
  • You learned that you could put your feet in you mouth. One day we even caught you with both feet in your mouth at the same time.
  • You started army crawling all over the place. It's time for Mommy and Daddy to childproof the house.
  • Your latest thing is to put your thumb in your pacifier and then suck on the pacifier.
  • You will often pick things up, inspect them very closely and then shove them into your mouth.
  • When you're getting sleepy your reach up and play with your hair.
  • You are getting very good at holding things all by yourself. You can hold your bottle and love to pull teething rings in and out of your mouth.
  • You are such a happy, fun little baby! We love to watch you discover new things, it is such a wonderful blessing.

A Bunch of Randomness

We haven't been up to too much the last few days, just recovering from being sick. Here are some random pictures that I've taken...

Cameron scooting around the kitchen

I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to let your kid play with plastic bags like this. Oh well...she was having fun!

Sleepy bear

Sleeping again, I just think it's so funny how little kids sleep in the craziest positions, this one isn't too bad.

Playing with the giant blue ball

Posing with the big blue ball

Hanging out with Aunt Jenna

Just hanging out after a bath...it's becoming quite a challenge to get Cameron dressed after her baths, she is such a wiggle worm!

Finally...we managed to get dressed

Helping dad work on the computer. She loves scooting under the desk...silly girl!

Cameron's Latest

Well ladies and gentlemen, I think we have officially moved past the "stationary" phase of Cameron's childhood. A couple days ago she started really scooting around and the rest is history! All I have to say is she sure picked up this new skill quickly!

She has also figured out how to get her toes into her mouth. The other day I actually caught her with toes from both feet up there at the same time. Crazy kid! It's funny how if you saw an adult doing this you would be completely grossed out not to mention the awkwardness of the whole thing, but it's cute to see a baby doing it.

Heaven Fest

Heaven Fest, this huge christian music festival, has been held at the reservoir right by our house the past few years. This years festival was on Saturday and we were able to go for a few hours. We decided to wait until a later in the day to go so it wouldn't be really hot. We got to hear Casting Crowns and a little bit of Hawk Nelson. It was fun.

We tried putting ear plugs in Cameron's ears. They didn't stay there for very long before she knocked them out. Doesn't she look like Shrek?
