Memorial Day Weekend

Happy Memorial Day!

Thank you to all those who have or are currently serving in the armed forces. We are truly blessed by the sacrifice that you and your families have made to protect our country. May you be remembered and honored today and always.

We've had a really nice weekend. Here's the rundown on all our activities.

Thursday
One of my good buddies from high school, Katie, was in town visiting her family this week, so Cameron and I got to hang out with her Thursday afternoon. It was so great to see her! It was the first time she got to meet Cameron which was really neat. It's so crazy to think that it's been almost a decade since Katie and I were running around on the basketball court together. It's amazing how quickly time passes.

Friday
Cameron got to stay with Grammy Kathy on Friday morning while I went into work (for those of you who didn't know, I've started doing some part time marketing work for a company called USAV Group. It's mostly from home with the exception of a Friday morning meeting that I go in for every week. It's been working out really well so far.)

Then Friday afternoon, Grandma Anne came over to play with us. Cameron got to show off her new rolling over skills. Friday night I went to a wedding shower for one of my best friends from middle school, Jackie. Cameron stayed home with Ryan. I'm pretty sure she showed off her rolling skills to her daddy too!

Saturday
Saturday morning we slept in. We'll actually I got up fed Cameron and when she fell asleep for her morning nap I crawled back into bed. We took it pretty easy and vegged out for the rest of the day. It felt really good to not do anything.

Sunday
We went to church Sunday morning. We actually tried out a new church. We've been trying out new churches the last few weeks. We really like a lot of things about the church we go to now, but it is just so big I feel like we get lost in the crowd. I wanted to check out a few other churches in our area to see if there is anything that is a little bit better fit for us. So far we haven't been anywhere that we like better than Flations. I think we might try one or two more churches and then call it quits.

Sunday afternoon we went for a walk with toots. Then we dropped her off at Grammy and Grandpa's house and headed down to Broomfield for Jackie and Sean's wedding. I forgot my camera so I didn't get any pictures which I'm really bummed about. She was a beautiful bride.

She wore her really cute fancy pants that Grammy and Aunt Annie got for her

Monday
Ryan got up really early and went golfing with some friends, so Cameron and I got to hang out at home. We went for a jog in the morning. I love jogging with Cameron in the Bob stroller. It's so nice! When we got back from our jog, Cameron wanted to practice rolling over some more. She's gotten really good at rolling from her back to her tummy, but she hasn't really mastered rolling back over to her back, so she gets stuck a lot. When Ryan got home we walked to Starbucks and got a drink. On the way home we realized we had a flat tire in the Bob. Yuck!

Here's a video of our little rollie pollie. This time you can see the full roll.

Cameron Rolled Over!

Big news in the Volk household today...

CAMERON ROLLED OVER!!

She did it twice, from her back to her tummy. Then I grabbed the flip camera to see if I coud catch her doing it again. She didn't quite make it all the way over on the video, but she got pretty close. A little later I put her on her tummy and she rolled from her tummy to her back. I'm so excited. It's so much fun to watch her learning to do new things!

Cameron was tuckered out after all that work

Taco Night

Last night was taco night at Fox Hill, so Ryan, Cameron and I and the rest of the Volk crew headed over there for dinner. It was yummy. After dinner we took a few 4 Generation photos. They turned out really nice.

Grandma and Grandpa Volk Come to Visit

Cameron got to meet her Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Volk last night. They drove down from North Dakota earlier this week to visit and to go to Heather's (one of Ryan's cousins) high school graduation in Colorado Springs.

Last night we all got together for dinner at Clair and Kathy's house. Ryan's Uncle Lowell and Aunt Rachael and their kids came over too. It was a lot of fun to see everyone. Plus, summer weather has finally arrived in Colorado, so we were able to spend some time outside which was wonderful.

After dinner we were all sitting around in the family room and we got this video of Cameron laughing. It was so funny. I think this probably the best video we've taken so far.

Here are the rest of the pictures...

Superpop's Birthday

Today was my dad's birthday so Cameron and I baked him a cake and he and my mom came up for the afternoon. I know, I know, you don't have to even tell me, I am an INCREDIBLE artist! I'm thinking I should probably start a cake making business. ;-)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUPERPOP!

Three Months Old!

Cameron is Three Months Old!

May 13, 2010
Weight: 11 pounds, 8 ounces
Length: 24 inches
Head: 40 centimeters

Three months ago we were welcoming Cameron into the world and now she is her own little person. It's so much fun for us to watch her grow. She is such a wonderful little baby. We don't have a doctors appointment this month, so we just measured her weight, length and head circumference at home. They probably aren't extremely accurate, but I figure they're close enough to give us an idea of how much she's grown.

So Cameron's what are you up to at three months old?

  • You are still a great sleeper. You are sleeping between 9 and 10 hours every night.
  • You love to talk. You babble and giggle at us all the time.
  • You learned to stick your tongue out this month.
  • You also found your lower lip. I'll catch you sucking on it every once in awhile.
  • You are fascinated by ceiling fans, they don't even have to be on to capture your attention.
  • You've gotten to be quite the active sleeper. You spin around in your crib during the night and you've kicked out of your swaddle blanket several times. We've had to switch into a different kind of swaddle blanket with Velcro.
  • You are an experienced traveler now after your first airplane trip to New Jersey.
  • We had to transition you up to a bigger size diaper, you now wear size 1.
  • You dropped a feeding this month so you are eating about five times a day now.
  • You are wearing 3 month clothes, right on track.
  • You have several nick names: Peanut, Toots, Honey Bear.
  • You are very strong. You can roll from your back to your side, you haven't made it all the way over yet. You can hold your head up and look around to see anything that catches your attention.
  • You love to watch the TV. Your daddy and I are going to have to be very careful about that.
  • You are such a fun little baby and your daddy and I love watching you grow up. It's so much fun to see you learn to do new things.

My First Mother's Day

It's hard to believe that one year ago from today our precious baby girl didn't even exist. Things have certainly changed since then! Now, I can't even imagine life without her. It is such a blessing to be her Mother.

Ryan and I were both sick this week and I can tell Cameron isn't feeling 100 percent, so we decided to take it easy today. We went to church this morning and then Ryan made some yummy breakfast burritos for brunch. Now Ryan and Cameron are napping and I think I'm going to follow their lead as soon as I finish this post. Although it isn't the most eventful day ever, I would have to say it has been a great first Mother's Day! Honestly, just spending time with my wonderful husband and beautiful daughter is all that I need to be a happy mommy!

Happy Mother's Day to all you mommies out there. Enjoy your families today!

God on TV?

A bug hit our house this week, yuck. Ryan was home sick on Wednesday and then I woke up feeling pretty crummy on Friday morning. Cameron seems to be hanging in there so far. She's a little stuffier then normal, but other than that she seems to be okay. I'm just praying she doesn't get the fever, headache, sore throat etc. that Ryan and I had.

I'm not usually a big TV watcher, but I was feeling so crummy that I stayed home by myself last night while Ryan and Cameron went to the Volk and Bell chili cook off and I ended up getting sucked into watching like 5 hours of wedding shows on TLC. (They are so darn addicting!) While I was glued to the TV, I kept seeing a preview for the Mother's Day special of 19 Kids and Counting where Mr. and Mrs. Duggar bring home the newest Duggar baby from the hospital.

I haven't watched this show in a really long time, but the preview caught my attention so I decided to check it out online to see what was going on. Apparently their little baby girl was born four months early at only 24 weeks into the pregnancy. Think about that, you're hardly even showing at 24 weeks. That's a really tiny baby. I don't care if you have had 18 other kids, that's got to be really scary.

They had this video clip posted on the website. It really touched me. What amazing faith this family has to have.

I honestly know nothing about this family besides what I've seen on TV, and we all know that TV can do a lot to misrepresent people, but if this clip is truly representative of what they believe and of the one true God. What a cool way to share your faith with the world. And what a miracle, that little baby is alive and well and coming home from the hospital!

Multitasking

Here's a video of Cameron talking...and having the hiccups at the same time. She is so talented! HA She has been talking up a storm lately. It's really fun.

Sleepy Baby

Cameron really is a great sleeper. We are extremely blessed because I know that not all parents have the same experience that we have when it comes to sleeping babies.

Recently Cameron has started to be a wiggle worm when she sleeps. We'll put her down one direction and when we come to get her up, she's positioned in an entirely different direction, even when she's swaddled! Ryan and I get a kick out of it. She must be getting strong ab muscles kicking her legs to move herself around like that!

Our sweet little girl,
I'm convinced there is nothing better than watching a sleeping baby

This is Cameron in her swaddle blanket,
this was in the morning so she had worked her way out of it a little bit,
but for those of you who are unfamiliar with swaddle blankets,
this is what they are

This was the other morning when I went to get Cameron up,
we put her in her crib the other direction when we put her to bed

This is when I went to get Cameron up from her nap yesterday,
notice she's moved out from under the blanket

This is Cameron taking a nap this morning, I thought she looked cute
